Blood pressure (Hypertension)

INTRODUCTION:

High blood pressure is a common disorder affecting the arteries of the body. It is also known as hypertension. When you have high blood pressure, the force of the blood pushing against the artery walls is always too strong. To pump blood, the heart has to work harder. The heart’s function can also be compromised because of excessive burden on the heart to pump above the average range. Hypertension occurs when the pressure in the blood rises above the normal range. The normal range of the blood is 120/80. If this normal range is exceeded, it is referred to as hypertension. During exercise, our blood pressure and heart rate cross the normal range, which is essential for the body because, during running, our body organs need a high supply of oxygen, for which there will be a slight rise in blood pressure. This will not fall under the umbrella of high blood pressure. If a person, even at rest, faces high blood pressure, this will be considered hypertension.

 SYMPTOMS:

Symptoms: The majority of people with high blood pressure have no symptoms, even if their blood pressure measurements are dangerously high. High blood pressure can exist for years without causing any symptoms.

A few high blood pressure patients may have:

  • Headaches
  • Breathing difficulty
  • Nosebleeds

RISK FACTORS:

Age: With age, the blood pressure also increases, which shows that age plays a key role in hypertension. This is most common in men as compared to women. After the age of 65, people will fall into the vicious cycle of hypertension.

Genetics:
High blood pressure is common in black people, which means that they are genetically at risk of the disease.
Obesity:

Being overweight or obese also raises the risk of heart disease and its risk factors, such as high cholesterol.

 Too much salt.:

A lot of salt, also known as sodium, in the body can cause it to retain fluid. This causes an increase in blood pressure.

Potassium deficiency:

 Potassium regulates the amount of salt in the cells of the body. A healthy potassium balance is essential for heart health. Low potassium levels can be caused by a lack of potassium in the diet or by certain medical conditions such as dehydration.

Stress:

 High amounts of stress might cause a brief rise in blood pressure. Stress-related behaviours such as eating more, smoking, or drinking alcohol can cause blood pressure to rise even higher.

Chronic diseases:

High blood pressure can be caused by a variety of illnesses, including kidney disease, diabetes, and sleep apnea.

COMPLICATIONS:

High blood pressure damages the walls of the artery and affects the structure of the heart, which gives rise to many complications. The higher the blood pressure, the longer it goes uncontrolled.

  • Heart attack: Hypertension affects the physiology of the heart and makes the heart harden and thicken its arteries, which can result in decreased pumping efficiency and become the cause of heart attack.
  • Aneurysm.: An aneurysm can form when a blood vessel weakens and bulges as a result of high blood pressure. When an aneurysm ruptures, it can be fatal.
  • Kidney issues: High blood pressure can constrict or weaken the blood vessels in the kidneys. This can result in renal damage.

LIFESTYLE MODIFICATION:

1.    Eating a healthy and balanced diet:

Have whole foods. Embrace every kind of fruit and food; this variety will bless you with multi-vitamins and minerals. Don’t limit yourself to chicken or meant only.Have no salty food as they have high amount of sodium which can alter your blood pressure.

 

2.    Drinking enough water:

Don’t have water when you feel thirsty, because this is the time when your body is already dehydrated. Have an hourly set alarm that reminds you to have water. Ensure you hydrate your system and aim to have at least 9 glasses of water.Hydration seems suitable if you want your blood pressure to be in control

 

3.    Regular exercise:

Exercise improves blood flow into our organs, which means that each cell is getting enough energy to perform well. Similarly, it stimulates the gut muscles, keeping them healthy.

  • :

Fiber acts as a toothbrush and cleans out the whole digestive track.. We have foods that naturally have fiber, like oats, barley, legumes, nuts, fruits, and vegetables. You must eat a variety of foods to make your gut health good.

  • Eat mindfully:

Eat and enjoy every moment. Happy are those who enjoy meals with the family instead of having them on their phones. Be focused on having meals; this will lower the risk of obesity.

  • No smoking:

Smoking plays a huge role for hypertension. Nicotine level can rise up your blood pressure and if you want to be healthy the first and foremost thing is to get rid of the smoking

Hypertension makes people vulnerable to other diseases. High blood pressure is a common disorder affecting the arteries of the body. It is also known as hypertension. When you have high blood pressure, the force of the blood pushing against the artery walls is always too strong. To pump blood, the heart has to work harder. This affects the cardiac tissue, which leads to cardiac issues. There are several reasons for having hypertension, and one of them is genetic. But lifestyle also contributes to hypertension. By alternating a few modifications in your lifestyle, you can be happy and healthy.
