Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic, transmural inflammatory condition affecting the entire gastrointestinal tract, causing "skip lesions" and increased risk of malignancy in genetically predisposed individuals. It's also known as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Management requires a multidisciplinary approach due to high healthcare costs.
